How Today's Man Has Evolved

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy has sparked a revolution with men, fashion, and gender differences. It has even sparked the birth of a new breed of men, metrosexuals. Metrosexuals are men who are grooming themselves into the grey area between straight and gay. We used to call these men "GQ". But GQ's retained manliness. GQ was the corporate prep that still had man-hands. Metros are the GQ's that no longer do yard work or work on cars, and if they did, you sure as hell wouldn't know.

Metros have plucked eyebrows, get manicures and pedicures, go to a hair salons, and have grooming products that don't begin with Ben-gay, Old Spice, or Irish spring. Sometimes they out-groom their female counterparts and slowly invade cabinet space. But besides better hygiene, there are a couple fashion staples that an Average Joe can pick up from a Metro. Keep in mind this isn't an exact science. There have always been well-dressed men, but it's only been in the past year that the mainstream manly I-don't-tuck-pluck-or-wear-anything-with-another-mans-name-on-it man has started converting.

    1) A man's watch is his Louis Vuitton Murakami. We've been trained to automatically look at status symbol wardrobe items. For women, it's the purse. For men, the watch. Shiny, made of titanium, stainless steal, or any other matte silver metal. Leather straps are a thing of the past, unless it's a wide leather cuff, which then of course conveys an urban bad boy look, which is also very metro. Additionally, the watch must hang slightly loose so as to force the wearer to give it that slight james-bondish shake down when reading time.
